Green Loans is a new Australian Government initiative introduced to help Australians tackle climate change. We all want to do our bit for the environment but may not always have the finance available to do so. The Green Loans Program assists Australian families to install solar, water saving, and energy efficient products, such as lighting and ceiling fans, by offering four year, interest free loans to approved applicants.
Green Loans has two main components of support from the Australian Government:
- a free Home Sustainability Assessment and report (valued at over $250); and
- access to a Green Loans subsidy provided to participating financial institutions to cover up to four years interest-free borrowing of up to $10,000, to implement changes recommended in the assessment report.
Home Sustainability Assessment
A qualified home assessor will come to your home, complete a FREE sustainability assessment and provide recommendations that can help you save energy and water.
Once you receive your tailored Home Sustainability Assessment – valid for 6 months, you are entitled to apply for an interest-free Green Loan of up to $10,000. Only one Green Loan and Home Sustainability Assessment will be available per applicant at a given address.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible to apply for a Free Home Sustainability Assessment the applicant must be:
- Aged 18 or over
- An Australian citizen, permanent resident and/or an Australian registered charity
- Have an income below $250,000
- The home/property owner, a trustee or renter listed on lease 12months
To be eligible to apply for a Free Home Sustainability Assessment the house/property must:
- Be in Australia or its territories
- Have been completed and occupied for at least 12 months
To be eligible to apply for a Green Loan the applicant must:
- Have a Home Sustainability Assessment report
- Satisfy the lending criteria of a participating Green Loans Program financial provider
The Green Loan must be for:
- Actions recommended in the Home Sustainability Assessment report as provided by an accredited assessor
- The house/property listed on the report
