Lamp Tips
|
Whether used for specific tasks or as ambient lighting, nothing transforms a room as quickly and easily as a lamp. Create a mood, brighten a dark corner, highlight a specific area or create a good reading or studying space. Consider these tips before you embark on a lamp revamp.
Firstly, what will the lamp be used for? Tasks such as reading, writing or cooking will require a desk/task lamp. Task lamps will be best suited to the study or desks in the bedroom, while decorative table lamps are designed to add an accent to living areas.
For task lighting, if you are right handed, position the lamp on your desk on the left side. The opposite applies for left-handers. This will reduce annoying shadows.
When choosing a floor lamp, ensure it has a strong enough light to reduce reflections. The lamp can be positioned over the left or right shoulder (the left/right handed rule of desk lamps does not apply here). A floor lamp can also be used as a decorative piece, adding height and interest to the corner of a room.
Lamps can cross over distinctions between traditional and contemporary - many traditional silhouettes are combined with modern finishes, while modern shades feature classic crystal bases. Beacon Lighting has a wide range of lamps to suit any style, from French to oriental, Scandinavian to industrial, country to beach house.
