From 70's shocker to suburban sensation

In this week’s episode of Selling Houses Australia, Andrew described this home in the Melbourne suburb of Mulgrave as a “crime against architecture”, and he wasn’t exaggerating!

The challenge
Frozen in time, buyers wanted no part of this ugly 70’s house with its kooky kitchen, hideous façade and tacky pop-top extension. With Anand and his family desperate to sell up and move to Queensland, this reno certainly tested the skills of Shaynna and Charlie.

One less wall, two incredible kitchen and dining spaces
It’s amazing what Shaynna can do with a sledgehammer! Removing the wall between the galley kitchen and dining room turned two dreary spaces into one incredible open plan space. Fresh white cabinetry and benchtops set the scene for contemporary living in the dining space. The sleek, linear design of our LEDlux Contempo Up/Down pendant and Peggy floor lamp created dramatic impact without interrupting the flow of the space.

Styling on a budget
When budget is an issue, simple styling updates such as new furniture and lighting can make the world of difference. Shaynna embraced the 70’s style wood panelled wall in the sunken lounge with our Peggy floor lamp and Ledlux Dalis dimmable track spots.

New lighting such as our LEDlux Textile flush mount and Millas table lamp transformed the master bedroom from dungeon to delightful!
