These were no ordinary outdoor spaces! This week on The Block, the teams pulled out all the stops for their alfresco and shed reveals - delivering stunning designs that blurred the line between indoors and out. With everything from sleek entertaining zones to moody retreats and even a secret wine cellar, it was a week full of surprises. Let’s take a look at how each team made their mark.

House 1: Emma and Ben

House 1’s elevated deck came with something special - those views! The judges were quick to notice how the outlook, paired with the Shou Sugi Ban timber cladding, gave the space real depth and drama. Marty loved how cohesive it felt with the home’s exterior, while Shaynna wanted just a touch more lightness to balance the darker tones.

The Lighting

Out on the deck, Sentinel wall brackets added a warm, gentle glow across the black cladding, softening the look and creating a polished, moody atmosphere. Come nightfall, the whole space feels cocooned and inviting - the perfect spot to soak in those Daylesford-inspired views.

House 2: Han and Can

A serene change of pace from the chaos of the build - Han and Can delivered an alfresco with a beautifully Zen mood. Their Japanese-inspired garden instantly caught Shaynna’s attention, who called it “absolutely incredible, elegant, classy.” Marty wasn’t quite as convinced, feeling it might have taken space away from the deck, but the artistry and calm of the design couldn’t be denied.

The Lighting

The lighting was soft and sculptural, with Tanimi wall lights casting gentle halos across the dark façade and warm-toned Seaside brass spotlights adding subtle contrast. Together, they highlighted the natural finishes and tranquil energy of the space - understated, elegant, and perfectly aligned with Han and Can’s thoughtful approach.

House 3: Britt and Taz

When Britt and Taz say “entertainer’s paradise,” they mean it. A teppanyaki grill, pizza oven and barbecue - all packed into one incredible alfresco. The judges admired the ambition (and the cooking options!) but wondered if it was a little too kitchen-heavy for the outdoor area. The dining zone, though, was a unanimous hit - refined, warm and beautifully styled.

The Lighting

Their shed? A total twist - instead of the Pilates studio the judges were hoping for, we got a speakeasy. Deep grey walls, dark timber flooring, and a wall of monochrome art gave it an unmistakably moody vibe. Nevada spotlights directed tight beams across each artwork, creating that gallery-like glow that made the space feel dramatic and luxurious. A truly inspired move from the “wellness house.”

House 4: Sonny and Alicia

Warm, coastal and completely charming — Sonny and Alicia’s alfresco felt like the kind of space you’d never want to leave. The judges loved the soft brick tones, the creamy palette and how beautifully the outdoor area connected with the home. Darren summed it up perfectly: “It feels like one big space.”

The Lighting

The lighting and heating worked hand in hand to make this area shine. Two Thermastrip outdoor heaters drew instant praise from the judges - Shaynna called them “divine” - adding year-round comfort without interrupting the clean lines of the design. The Tanimi wall brackets stood out against the dark exterior, introducing a sculptural accent that tied the look together. Inside the shed, clever use of Nevada track lighting and Sentinel spotlights kept the vast space bright and functional without losing that relaxed, beachy mood.

House 5: Robby and Matt

What a reveal! Robby and Mat had the biggest week by far - finally unveiling their long-awaited wine cellar. Upstairs, their alfresco kitchen, shed, and gym had the judges smiling from the first moment. “This is textbook,” said Marty. “There’s nothing a buyer will walk into here and not enjoy.” Shaynna praised how seamlessly it connected to the interior, while Darren called the whole thing “in a league of its own.”

The Lighting

The lighting here was sleek and purposeful. Wanaka adjustable wall lights provided crisp, directional illumination over the barbecue and prep areas, while downstairs, the Pompeii brass pendant cast a golden glow across the cellar’s walls. It was the perfect match for the rich tones and layered styling - bold, refined and so beautifully executed.

The Takeaway?

What a week on The Block! From sculptural, Zen-inspired gardens to moody wine cellars and modern entertaining zones, every team brought something different to the table. The lighting choices tied it all together, adding warmth, definition and that extra sense of atmosphere. We can’t wait to see what the teams dream up next week!
