This week’s guest suites showcased tonal palettes and layered textures, creating some truly cocooning spaces. Each reveal brought its own perspective on what a considered retreat can be. And with Week 8 marking the halfway point of the build, the pressure was on – because a “guest suite” on The Block isn’t just one room, but two: a bedroom and ensuite completed in a single week.

Scroll through to see what judges Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox thought about the guest suites – and the clever lighting choices that brought them to life.

House 1: Emma and Ben

Emma and Ben came out swinging with a suite that immediately wowed the judges. Their stroke of genius? Adding a kitchenette alongside the bedroom and ensuite – creating a fully self-contained space with future buyers firmly in mind.

The judges loved the consistency of the green palette, tying beautifully back to the rest of the house and the Daylesford landscape. In the ensuite, jewel-toned tiles shimmered like a gem box – Shaynna even admitted she was “afraid for the next four” after seeing it.

The Lighting

Emma and Ben paired their green-and-neutral palette with the Sienna wall bracket in bronze, bringing soft, ambient light and a refined touch of warmth to their guest retreat.

House 2: Han and Can

Han and Can shook up their layout this week, reorienting the bed to face the window and sneaking in a new makeup station. But with unfinished painting and missing elements, the girls admitted they were disappointed.

Still, there was plenty to love. Shaynna praised the punchy autumnal palette, Darren admired the sophistication of the red marble, though Marty flagged the missing kitchenette as a major auction disadvantage.

The Lighting

The Octavia lamp appeared here, this time in aged brass – its sculptural form and metallic finish striking against the bold rust-red tones of the bedroom. In the ensuite, the Luella wall light added another layer of glamour. Its brass detailing tied seamlessly to the tapware, while the alabaster diffuser glowed softly against the dramatic marble. Together, these lighting choices added warmth, balance and richness to a space full of bold materiality.

House 3: Britt and Taz

Britt and Taz brought a splash of colour to their signature beige style, layering in rich autumnal tones and warm textures. Their kitchenette, with ribbed cream cabinetry and a cleverly hidden fridge, left Shaynna gushing – “I’ve never seen this before.” The overall vibe was warm, inviting and styled to perfection, even if their ensuite was barely started.

The Lighting

Their bedside choice, the Lora lamp, added softness and vintage-inspired charm. Its speckled ceramic base and pleated linen shade paired beautifully against the deeper hues in the room, while subtle repetition of lines – in the lamp, books and panelling – tied the styling together. They also introduced the Amore wall bracket in bronze with natural linen pleated shades, a touch of refined detail that brought balance and warmth to the bedroom walls.

House 4: Sonny and Alicia

Sonny and Alicia leaned into a loud-and-proud colour drenching this week, saturating the suite in rich hues. The judges loved the bravery and boldness of their palette, praising the consistency and impact across the home. The ensuite carried on the drama with bronzed tapware and striking tiles that Darren described simply as “yum, yum, yum.”

The Lighting

Their bedside sconces were a clear highlight – the Berimbau wall bracket with its sculptural form sitting beautifully against the bold wallpaper. Darren even admitted he’d had his eye on it for ages, calling it a “beautiful inclusion.” In the ensuite, the Aura racetrack mirrors doubled as both task and ambient lighting, with anti-fog and dimmable features making them as practical as they were stylish.

House 5: Robby and Matt

The boys didn’t quite finish their suite this week, but what they did deliver impressed. The judges adored the grasscloth wallpaper and walnut cabinetry in the bedroom, and Darren labelled their tile choices “so hot.” While the ensuite wasn’t ready for judging, Shaynna noted the potential – “this could’ve been a really hot contender.”

The Lighting

The Wirth lamp was a real star here. Its warm walnut base and simple linen shade glowed beautifully against the deep green wallpaper, tying perfectly into the natural, layered palette that runs throughout the home. Paired with walnut cabinetry and bronzed accents, it gave the space a richness that felt grounded and timeless.

The Takeaway?

Another week of standout design, from bold colour choices to thoughtful lighting touches. The guest suites showed just how much personality the teams are bringing into their homes, with every room feeling unique yet carefully considered. We’ve loved watching these spaces come together, and we’re already looking forward to what the next round of reveals will bring.
