Renovating on the wild side
14 October 2018
With a brief to “be bolder and go nuts”, the Blockheads certainly showed off their quirky side in the first Challenge Apartment reveal.
Bianca & Carla
What they did: The judges were wowed by the modern luxury of this ensuite, complete with pink palm tree wallpaper, bold black flooring and double shower. While Darren loved our Aksel pendant over the vanity, he noted that our MFL Accent downlights needed to be moved to either side of the mirrors to achieve a more balanced lighting effect.
Get the look: Replicate this “sexy” bathroom style at home by pairing fun wallpaper with the delicacy of our glass and brass Aksel pendant. Add the ultimate in modern luxury with an Amazon Echo to power the lights and the shower through smart voice activation.
Kerrie & Spence
What they did: Kerri & Spence channelled the edgier side of St. Kilda with a wall of graffiti wallpaper, black wardrobes – and a neon pink flamingo!
Get the look: Get creative and try something new by installing fun, colour shifting lighting! Switch your old lamp and downlight globes to our new smart lighting globes and you can add 16 million colour options to your lighting repertoire. Create a more sophisticated look by adding our DIY LIFX dimmable strips under cabinets.
Courtney & Hans
What they did: It was an explosion of impactful colour in this winning guest bedroom, and the judges loved the “eccentricity and whimsy” of the wild feature wallpaper, purple bedhead and pink and blue soft furnishings.
Get the look: Let vibrant decorating choices shine by selecting simple lighting pieces such as our Mak table lamp used by Courtney & Hans. Add our Citta floor lamp for more ambient light in a cosy corner.
Hayden & Sara
What they did: The judges loved how Hayden & Sara created “bathroom magic” by embodying the trend towards modern simplicity with a beautiful black and white palette softened by ever so subtle and serene pops of colour.
Get the look: Create your own minimalist room with our architecturally designed MFL minitrim downlights.
Norm & Jess
What they did: While Norm & Jess kept their palette simple with a panelled feature wall mixed with grey soft furnishings, the judges described their styling choices (especially the tiny couch) as a “weird mismatch”.
Get the look: Create more of an impact in a simple space with modern black accents such as our Panorama pendant.
