The recipe for a perfect kitchen

“Alexa, turn up the wow factor!” Lighting is one of the most important elements in a busy kitchen, and the Blockheads took full advantage of the benefits of smart lighting, with hands-free voice control, courtesy of Amazon Alexa.
Kerrie & SpenceWhat they did: With lashings of luxurious Caesarstone and dark cabinetry, Kerrie & Spence’s winning kitchen was a masterclass in how to use lighting to add warmth and a subtle softness to such an imposing space.
Get the look: In addition to our Circa pendants, use dimmable downlights such as our MFL Accent to easily switch between task and mood lighting. To really amp up the luxe, add our stick-on Wi-Fi controlled LIFX Z Dimmable strip lighting under cabinetry and shelves. With 16 million colour choices and no hub required, you can create endless lighting possibilities anywhere in the home.
Courtney & Hans
What they did: While blocking out natural light with their butler’s pantry was not a hit with the judges, Darren loved the dark timber, white and black finishes, but questioned why Courtney & Hans used white switches on black surfaces.
Get the look: Adjustable spotlights such as our architecturally designed MFL Titan are crucial for areas where you need versatile task lighting. Add even more cutting- edge style and finesse with our bold Buster & Punch switches in matte black.
Hayden & Sara
What they did: Hayden & Sara created a warm and inviting setting with a brass and white palette and a trio of delicate glass pendants.
Get the look: The judges absolutely loved the light and shade of our Marcel pendants which Darren noted were a beautifully subtle way to achieve all-important task lighting.
Norm & Jess
What they did: While the judges had some issues with functionality, they loved the way the warm marble benchtop and soft grey cabinetry matched their living and dining area.
Get the look: With our Orion pendant making an impactful statement in the dining area, Jess & Norm cleverly chose to keep their kitchen lighting simple, using a few key Surface downlights to light the space.
Bianca & Carla
What they did: With two-tone cabinetry, Bianca and Carla created what Neale described as a “sexy, sophisticated” kitchen, with the consistency of their darker palette creating a seamless flow from room to room.
Get the look: The judges loved the cluster of black pendants over the island bench. Make a similar statement with our Zinc pendant range.
