A Double Win for Design

MFL Forge and MFL Axis Receive Australian Good Design Awards

Two of our distinctive collections of switches and powerpoints have earned national recognition, with MFL Forge and MFL Axis both named winners at the 2026 Australian Good Design Awards. We're incredibly proud. Each received a 2026 Australian Good Design Award in the Product Design – Hardware and Building category.

Developed under the direction of Beacon Lighting's Innovation Director, Scott Robinson, both collections were created to rethink the role of everyday switches and powerpoints in Australian interiors.

While Forge and Axis take very different approaches to design, they were both created from a belief that even the smallest details deserve attention. The awards recognise the work that has gone into making these everyday essentials more enjoyable to use and more appealing to look at.

MFL Forge

With its distinctive toggle switches and rotary dimmers, MFL Forge brings a tactile quality to something we interact with every day.

The collection combines stainless steel plates with interchangeable components, giving customers the freedom to customise their switches and powerpoints to suit their interiors. Modern and Heritage styles sit within the same system, with a selection of finishes that can be mixed to create a more personalised look.

Forge's slim 6.1 mm profile adds to its refined appearance, while its design accommodates standard Australian wall boxes.

The Good Design Awards Jury praised the collection for its “highly tactile and satisfying user interaction”, recognising the attention given to the physical experience of using each switch.

The jury also highlighted Forge's distinctive finishes and detailing, acknowledging the collection's ability to turn an often-overlooked part of the home into a design feature.

MFL Axis

MFL Axis takes a different approach, focusing on making everyday switches easier to see and use without compromising on appearance.

Its larger-format switches can be operated with a hand, knuckle, wrist or elbow, making them a practical choice for a wide range of users. A matte soft-touch finish gives the collection a contemporary look, while concealed fixings create a clean appearance against the wall.

The collection also includes integrated push-button dimmers and switchless powerpoints with automatic safety shutters.

In its assessment, the Good Design Awards Jury recognised Axis for “improving the look, feel and accessibility of one of the most common user-device interfaces”.

The jury also commended its architectural design and retrofit compatibility, acknowledging how the collection brings a fresh approach to an everyday electrical essential.

Celebrating Australian Design

Receiving two Australian Good Design Awards is an exciting achievement for Beacon Lighting and the team behind MFL Forge and Axis.

The Australian Good Design Awards recognise excellence in design across a broad range of industries, making this recognition particularly meaningful for two collections that challenge the way we think about switches and powerpoints.

It's also a reminder that good design isn't limited to the most noticeable features in a room. The details we reach for every day deserve just as much attention.

We're delighted to see both collections recognised and look forward to continuing to develop lighting and electrical accessories that make a difference to Australian interiors.
