The Block 2026: Outdoor Terrace and Pool

After weeks spent working on the interiors, The Block contestants have finally headed outside, and there's plenty to get excited about. This week's outdoor terrace & pool reveals brought us expansive timber decks, impressive outdoor kitchens and some gorgeous pools overlooking the Mornington Peninsula landscape.

House 1 | Adam and Jolene
Adam and Jolene certainly know how to make the most of an outdoor space. Their resort-style design impressed the judges, particularly the generous poolside entertaining area and outdoor kitchen, complete with a barbecue and pizza oven. The addition of a sauna also caught Darren's attention, adding another reason to spend time outside.
Shaynna declared that the space felt like a resort, although the judges weren't entirely convinced by the placement of the tall table on the terrace, which interrupted the view towards the pool.
The covered alfresco features a striking mix of dark timber and pale brickwork, with black architectural details connecting the materials.
The Lighting - Adam and Jolene made great use of architectural lighting in their alfresco area, choosing Coventry up/down wall lights in textured black to highlight the pale brickwork. The defined beams draw attention to the texture of the bricks, while the black finish connects with the darker timber details throughout the space. Overhead, Ison surface mounted downlights in black provide low-glare illumination, with colour-shifting technology allowing the light colour to be adjusted to suit the occasion.
House 2 | Chantel and Wyatt
Chantel and Wyatt made the most of their outdoor footprint, extending the deck to create a generous entertaining area overlooking the pool. Their use of natural stone was an immediate hit with the judges, who loved the texture and the connection it created with the home's interior finishes.
The terrace features a relaxed mix of stone, timber and outdoor furniture, with a glass balustrade keeping the view towards the pool open. Marty was particularly impressed by the presentation of the pool area, although the judges felt the outdoor kitchenette needed a barbecue to make it a more practical entertaining space.
The Lighting: For their outdoor lighting, Chantel and Wyatt chose Wanaka wall lights, adding illumination to the exterior walls while complementing the contemporary design. Black lighting finishes were also used throughout the outdoor areas, keeping the fittings understated against the natural materials.
With such a generous deck and a lovely mix of textures, there's plenty to like about this outdoor space.

House 3 | Lisa and Rosco
Lisa and Rosco took a different direction this week, creating an outdoor space that draws heavily on its natural surroundings. Their dark pool was a standout, with Darren loving the way the water reflected the surrounding landscape and gave the area a billabong-like appearance.
The covered terrace continues the darker timber palette seen throughout their home, balanced by pale brickwork and a substantial timber dining table. With a barbecue nearby and an outlook across the pool, it's a lovely spot for entertaining.
The Lighting: The Riviera DC ceiling fan in black is a particularly good choice for this setting. Its distinctive blades wrap around the central light, creating an interesting design detail against the dark timber ceiling. With six remote-controlled speeds and powerful airflow, it also brings welcome relief during hot summer days.
The judges appreciated the uncluttered design and darker material palette, but the pool fencing and access raised some questions.

House 4 | Courtney and Sev
Courtney and Sev had the biggest outdoor area to tackle this week, and the scale of their reveal certainly made an impression. Their enormous deck accommodates a substantial outdoor kitchen and dining area, with wide timber steps leading down towards the pool and surrounding lounge spaces.
Marty was amazed by the size of the deck, while Darren praised the amount of entertaining space the team had managed to create. The judges felt it was an impressive addition to the home, despite some unfinished details and questions about elements of the landscaping.
The covered terrace has a strong contemporary look, with grey timber cladding wrapping across the walls and ceiling. A generous timber dining setting adds contrast, while large sliding doors connect the entertaining area to the interior.
The Lighting: The Londo DC fan in black suits the architecture particularly well, with its clean lines and distinctive blade design complementing the timber ceiling. Its efficient, quiet DC motor makes it a practical addition for summer entertaining.
Courtney and Sev also included a Lucci Connect radiant heater in black above the dining area, helping extend the use of the terrace into the cooler months. With adjustable heat settings, timers and Wi-Fi connectivity, it gives them convenient control over outdoor heating.

House 5 | Rick and Tayla
Rick and Tayla embraced the natural materials of their coastal setting, with extensive timber decking and beautiful stone cladding creating a strong connection to the landscape.
The judges were particularly taken with the stone finishes and the olive tree incorporated into the decking, with Darren praising the overall colour palette. They also recognised the potential of the enormous backyard, although the unfinished areas ultimately affected the team's score.
Their covered alfresco has a relaxed, coastal character, with timber lining the walls and ceiling and a generous outdoor kitchen ready for entertaining.
The Lighting: The Flinders ceramic wall lights in green are a lovely addition to the timber walls, introducing a subtle touch of colour while their up/down illumination highlights the natural grain. Their ceramic construction and coastal-rated IP65 design also make them a practical choice for the outdoor setting.
Overhead, the Nautica DC ceiling fan in black brings a distinctive design element to the space. Its floating blade effect creates an interesting feature against the timber ceiling, while its powerful airflow is ideal for summer entertaining.
A Lucci Connect radiant heater provides additional comfort during cooler weather, making this a space that can be enjoyed well beyond the warmer months.
Making the Most of Outdoor Living
This week's reveals offered some great ideas for planning outdoor lighting, particularly when it comes to choosing fittings that complement the architecture rather than compete with it.
