Darker interiors make a bold statement and create a warm, inviting space, but it’s a fine line between gloomy and grand as the House Rules teams discovered in this week’s first whole house reveal.

Dressing Room by Lisa & Andy
What they did: An electric clothes rack and lush red wallpaper gave this room the ‘X-tra’ factor
Get the look: Install task lighting such as our Dalis spots and tracks in a walk-in robe. You can direct the spotlights to highlight shelving and bounce the light off the walls to create a pleasant ambience.

Bathroom/Nursery by Katie & Alex
What they did: The judges loved the opulence of the green tiling matched with the burgundy towels in the bathroom. With stars on the ceiling and a stunning ‘moonlight’ feature light, the baby’s room was also a big hit.
Get the look: Recreate Katie and Alex’s bathroom with our Baristo Up/Down wall lights on either side of your mirror. In bedrooms, replace traditional pictures or artwork with our LEDlux Disk spots to bring a dreamy ambience to a space.

What they did: Tim and Matt decked the kitchen with dark cabinetry and ‘James Bond’ like gadgets, while the guest bedroom wowed the judges with a geometric feature wall.
Get the look: If you want a dark palette in your kitchen, ensure the space is well-lit with our Dalis spot lights and tracks for task lighting. In the bedroom, choose a simple and elegant design like our Marcel pendant.
