Smart lighting brings a heritage home into the 21st century
Who would have thought a home smack bang on Sydney harbour would be unsellable! But that was the case in this week’s episode of Foxtel’s Selling Houses Australia when Shaynna, Charlie and Andrew were faced with transforming a run-down disaster in Balmain East into a home worthy of the multi-million-dollar views.
The challenge
Would you pay $4 million for a 2-bedroom home with one tiny bathroom? Neither would anyone else as Fran and Fred discovered. While the house had magnificent harbour views, the restrictive heritage listing and half-finished renovations turned buyers off.

With its heritage listing, Shaynna had to work with the original blueprint of the house. Using a Google Home Mini with LIFX dimmable strip lighting in the kitchen and our LIFX dimmable downlights in almost every room, she catapulted the home into the future.

Replacing the old spiral staircase with an electric ladder made the open plan living space so much bigger. The neutral colour scheme added class while our Moselle chandelier, Arlington table lamp and Corbelle floor lamp brought contemporary drama and warmth to the living space.

“Hey Google, turn my bathroom into a spa!”
The old study was transformed into a stunning bathroom, and with smart lighting in our Koralky drape chandelier, buyers could turn the lights on or off without leaving the tub!

High drama was the theme for the glamorous master bedroom with the bold paintings, harbour views and our Abella chandelier and Sullivan lamps.

The second bedroom in contrast, was calm and cozy featuring our classic Sullivan lamps.
