The Block 2020 Winners And Our Favourite Rooms
Join us as we congratulate Jimmy and Tam on their win and revisit the stunning rooms this season.
The curtains have come down on the most successful season in The Block’s history with all five teams scoring big. However, Brisbane couple Jimmy and Tam set a new record on The Block as well as in Australian TV history by taking home $1.066 million (including $100,000 prize money) after their 1950’s Palm Springs-inspired home sold for $4,256,000. Congratulations Jimmy and Tam, your hard work paid off!
As proud lighting suppliers of this season’s reno, we followed the five teams week after week as they used our products to transform five homes from five different eras into luxurious abodes in beachy Brighton. We’ve looked back on 12 weeks of stunning reveals and picked our favourites to share with you.
Week 1 - Luke & Jasmin's beach box
Their lighting choice: Our Dunne pendant
The verdict: Luke and Jasmin nailed the luxurious coastal look with our handcrafted Dunne pendant in a soft, antique brass frame. After all, nothing says coastal like iridescent capiz shells.
Week 2 – Luke & Jasmin's bathroom
Their lighting choice: Our Aksel wall bracket
The verdict: This ensuite perfectly combined the 1910’s period feel with contemporary elements like our Aksel brass wall bracket which perfectly tied in with the brass mirror and tapware. Warm and dreamy!
Week 3 – Sarah & George’s bedroom
Their lighting choice: Our Corbelle pendant
The verdict: Sarah and George created a master bedroom straight out of Hollywood. They used bold colours and opulent textures to infuse a sense of luxury but what nailed the look was our grand Corbelle pendant paired with their stunning ceiling rose!
Week 4 – Daniel & Jade's ensuite
Their lighting choice: Our Parker wall bracket, Nevada spotlights and strip lighting
The verdict: The hero of this massive ensuite was without doubt the 1930’s fish scales feature wall complemented by our elegant Parker lights over the vanity. Daniel and Jade combined these with our Nevada spotlights and strip lighting to deliver the ‘layered lighting’ look which upped the glamour quotient in this already glamourous space.
Week 5 – Luke & Jasmin's kids’ bedroom
Their lighting choice: Our Disk wall lights
The verdict: Luke and Jasmin delivered one of the cutest kids bedrooms on The Block ever! It was playful, whimsical and gorgeous. Our Disk lights were styled as spots of sunshine in a safari world. By using wall lights instead of bedside lamps, they freed up space on the bedside tables for other things like books and glasses. It’s a space every kid will absolutely adore.
Week 6 – Sarah & George’s kitchen
Their lighting choice: Custom-made Masson For Light Roman pendant
The verdict: This kitchen was the perfect example of how a monochromatic kitchen in black and white should be styled. The gorgeous monolithic stone island bench was beautifully framed by the Masson For Light Roman LED pendant, custom made for the team by our Beacon Design Studio. A subtle, architectural touch!
Week 7 – Jimmy & Tam’s living room
Their lighting choice: Our Centaur floor lamp
The verdict: Our Centaur lamp in antique brass added the warmth and spot of luxury this space needed. Its individual heads allow them to be adjusted to focus light where it’s needed thus making it an excellent functional choice too.
Week 8 – Jimmy & Tam’s guest bedroom
Their lighting choice: Our Mele table lamp
The verdict: Jimmy and Tam delivered a beautifully styled, spacious guest bedroom that has a sense of luxury. Our Mele table lamp with pale brown ash wood detail fit right in with the gorgeous brown colour palette! We love how it complements the soaring graphical feature wall and creates a relaxing aura when lit.
Week 9 – Sarah & George’s stairway void
Their lighting choice: Our Bolton pendant
The verdict: Our Bolton pendant works brilliantly to bring life and purpose to this void. Its sculptural black design complements the sculptural artwork as well as the black elements on the stairway and windows. Tip: This pendant allows its arms to be adjusted to customise your design according to your space.
Week 10 – Harry & Tash’s front garden
Their lighting choice: Our Macedon wall lights
The verdict: Harry and Tash created an oasis of serenity in their front garden with elegant and calming details. We love how our Macedon exterior lights in white wash light on the façade of the house and create a welcoming look.
Week 11 – Luke & Jasmin’s studio ensuite
Their lighting choice: Our Coral pendant
The verdict: Our Coral pendant in woven rattan made an organic statement in Luke and Jasmin’s luxurious, coastal bathroom. The high ceiling in this small space allowed them to go bold with a long suspension while the open design of the Coral allowed light to flow out freely making the room feel more spacious.
Week 12 – Daniel & Jade's backyard
Their lighting choice: Our surface mounted downlights, Marine wall brackets, Abyss fan and Thermastrip heater
The verdict: There’s so much to love in this backyard! Our Abyss fan will keep this outdoor space cool and comfy on warm summer days while our Thermastrip heater will add warmth on cold days. Our surface mounted downlights will set the mood for summer lounging on the back deck and our Marine wall brackets will highlight the olive plants beautifully when turned on. Perfect lighting plan!
