This week on The Block, our contestants took on Front Yard and Facade Week, transforming the entrances of their homes with stunning designs and standout style. As always, we were thrilled to be a part of the magic, helping each team set the perfect tone with outdoor lighting that elevates curb appeal and enhances every facade. Let’s dive into the highlights and discover how you can bring some of this brilliance to your own front yard!

House 1: Maddy and Charlotte

Maddy and Charlotte worked on a tight budget, but they created a “simple and easy to maintain” front yard that impressed. Their approach included a curved path in French-patterned tiles and a laid-back, lush lawn. The judges admired the massive facade and their thoughtful touches – especially the clean and organised garage, styled to perfection!

For Maddy and Charlotte's classic front yard, the Wanaka 2 light wall sconce in black adds a subtle yet striking elegance to the exterior walls, enhancing the natural textures of the home’s facade. Pairing it with Wanaka path lights along the tiled walkway highlights the design and creates a welcoming approach, while the Wanaka spike spots were positioned around greenery to cast soft, accent lighting that brings out the beauty of garden beds.

Styling Tip: For a balanced look, position path lights along both sides of a walkway, ensuring each step feels inviting. Use spike lights to accent any feature plants or garden elements, creating layers of light that guide the eye and add depth to your front yard.

House 2: Courtney and Grant

Courtney and Grant’s “Moderterranean” design focused on creating an inviting, lush entrance that added serious street appeal. From the beautiful arbours framing the pathway to the thriving greenery, every detail was perfectly executed. The judges were particularly taken with the grand entrance and the dream lifestyle vibe they achieved!

To capture Courtney and Grant’s sophisticated Mediterranean-inspired aesthetic, the team used MFL Tanimi cylinder lights in natural, a warm and neutral choice that added soft illumination along their exterior walls. The MFL Tanimi wall disc offered a streamlined option for highlighting architectural details, casting a soft downward glow that accents textures and tones beautifully.

Styling Tip: Position up/down lights along the entrance to create a grand walkway. These fixtures not only illuminate the space but also add drama and height to front yard features like arbours, trellises, or accent walls.

House 3: Ricky and Haydn

For their final touches, Ricky and Haydn embraced their signature fun-loving style with a bold 70-foot palm tree and an eye-catching hot pink garage door. Their risk-taking approach paid off, bringing both sophistication and a touch of playfulness to the front yard. The judges were wowed by the statement-making palm, which perfectly complemented their overall look.

For that "fun meets chic" vibe, the boys used MFL Tanimi discs, adding visual warmth and texture, and the Lucci Connect radiant heater to ensure the space is usable all year round.

Styling Tip: Use heaters and warm-toned lighting to create an outdoor lounge area, so you can enjoy your front yard in all seasons. Play with colour and height to add layers, ensuring each element feels both fun and harmonious.

House 4: Kylie and Brad

Kylie and Brad overcame a tough week, pulling together a stylish, architectural front yard that balances sharp lines with soft, rounded details. Their coastal-inspired entrance, complete with architectural plants and rounded pavers, added an inviting warmth, blending hard and soft elements beautifully.

Kylie and Brad’s architectural approach featured the Lexicon Terrazzo pendant for that contemporary accent.

These lights look fantastic, but unfortunately Kylie and Brad went against our advice to install the Lexicon pendants outdoors - these lights are not rated for outdoor use. Want to see more suitable lights for your outdoor room? See here!

Styling Tip: For an inviting, layered look, mix wall-mounted lights with pendant styles that showcase different textures and materials, adding dimension to your front yard. Choose warm hues to balance sharper, architectural elements for a welcoming glow.

House 5: Kristian and Mimi

Kristian and Mimi transformed their front yard and entertainer’s balcony into a breezy, luxurious space. With a grand balcony overlooking the front yard and a sprawling second-largest palm tree on The Block, they created a seamless blend of elegance and functionality. The judges loved the space, particularly the retractable screens and how the design allowed views over both the pool and front yard.

The Marine LED spike spots bring added focus to larger plants, like their massive palm, creating shadows that play on the walls and garden. The MFL Tanimi light combines form and function, delivering just the right amount of light for a bold, balanced look.

Styling Tip: Use spike spots to draw attention to focal plants or structures, creating shadows that add drama. Mix up/down lighting along walls with spotlights to highlight both architectural details and landscaping elements for a cohesive look.
